Department of Chemical Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering of the Islamic Azad University of Arak was founded in 1989 by giving admission to the first group of undergraduate students. In recognition of Iran as a major oil and gas producing country in Middle East and OPEC since 1908, the department has developed industry related to training students in collaboration with major Iranian oil companies, such as: Shazand Refinery and Shazand Petrochemical Company in Arak and also at preparing well-qualified chemical engineers for National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and child agencies.
The Department of Chemical Engineering has honored for teaching and training hundreds of chemical engineers in undergraduate and graduate levels who are proudly engaged in oil and gas industrial and academic centers in Arak and all over the country. Currently, The Chemical Engineering Department includes 5 full-time faculty members, 1 staff, and more than 190 Iranian and foreign students of whom 173 are enrolled in undergraduate program (B.Sc), 11 in M.Sc., and 15 in Ph.D. programs.
Area of Undergraduate and Graduate Study.
The Department of Chemical Engineering offers three programs:
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) including: Chemical Engineering Major.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) including: Chemical Engineering, and Processing and Gas Transportation Majors.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) including: Chemical Engineering Major.
Chemical Engineering Department Facilities.
The Chemical Engineering Department has an excellent educational laboratories including: Heat Transfer Laboratory, Fluid Mechanics Labs, Thermodynamic Labs, Unit Operations Laboratory, and Hydraulic Laboratory. A variety of specialized equipment is also contained in the Chemical Engineering Laboratory e.g. Material Analytical Laboratory with very high precision up to 1x10-6 percent of substances.
Sophisticated analytical equipment, such as: Chromatographs and Spectrometers, is available in many of the Chemical Engineering Laboratories.
Dr. Ali Hassani-Josheghani, Ph.D. in Ch.E. is currently the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering.
